Information
It is the capital of the province, which is located on the shore of the Negro River. A bridge separates it from Carmen de Patagones, which is on the other side of the river.
It has a variety of services such as tourist information offices, shops, restaurants, petrol station, ATMs and hotels. It has a long riverside road metres away from the river, which is surrounded by parks and in one of its sectors there is the Plazoleta del Fundador (small square of the Founder) with a monument to Francisco de Viedma.
To get to Viedma:
- By bus: there is a bus terminal where public transport arrive from Bahía Blanca, Buenos Aires, El Cóndor, Las Grutas, Puerto Madryn, Rosario, San Carlos de Bariloche and Trelew.
- By car: it can be reached through National Route 3, which passes by the side of the city.
- By plane: there is an airport with direct flights from Buenos Aires some days of the week, and with stopovers from many other places.
- By train: there is the Tren Patagónico (Patagonian train), which runs once a week along Bariloche - San Antonio Oeste - Viedma route.
