Río Negro

It is an Argentine province located in the Patagonian region. It is the fourth largest province in the country.

The territory has a high area on the west side due to the presence of the Andes Mountains. Then to the east it descends in altitude until it reaches the sea coast. In this way, its tourist sites can be described by its two main areas:

1. Andean: with mountains, lakes and extensive forests, among its outstanding places we can mention:
- San Carlos de Bariloche: it is one of the best known tourist destinations in the country. It is on the shores of the Lake Nahuel Huapi, and offers activities on its beaches, Llao Llao Llao Municipal Park, Puerto Pañuelo, Cerro Otto (a hill) and other nearby lakes and towns.
- Nahuel Huapi National Park (shared with the province of Neuquén): it is a large protected area with different sections, each one with its own attractions such as large lakes, hiking and camping sites.
- El Bolsón: a tourist locality that in its outskirts has the Río Azul-Lago Escondido Natural Protected Area with multiple trekking circuits of varying difficulty.
- Villa Catedral: an important ski centre for the coldest months of the year.

2. Coast: it is long and alternates parts of beaches and cliffs, with an abundance of wild areas. Among the main places we have:
- Las Grutas: it is the best known destination of the coast of Río Negro. Its outstanding feature is the presence of large caves formed in the cliffs.
- El Cóndor: it has a wide beach, with a huge colony of parrots in its surroundings.
- Acantilados Route: it is a long route of wild coastline, with many points of interest to stop and observe.
- Playas Doradas: it has an extensive beach and a coastal path.

Regarding when to go to Río Negro, it is obvious that the season depends exclusively on the activities you want to do. For skiing in the Andean zone, you have to go during the cold winter months (June to September). And to enjoy the beach on the coast or hike in the Andean area, you should go in the summer (December to March).
