El Cóndor

Information

It is a town and beach destination located on the coast of Argentina's Río Negro Province. It has a tourist information office, restaurants, shops, a campground and accommodation at different prices.

The first thing that will surprise you is how extensive its beaches are. They even become wider when the tide goes out revealing a large rocky shore. It is also surrounded by wild natural areas, so there are many natural attractions to explore in the surrounding area:
— Taking Calle 8 bis and then following the paved road for 2.5 km northeast, which turns into a dirt and sand road in the final stretch, you reach the mouth of the Negro River. It is a wild area surrounded by wide beaches and dunes, where different species of coastal birds can often be seen.
— To the west, Provincial Route 1 begins. It is paved as far as La Lobería and then continues as a gravel and sand road (suitable for 4x4 vehicles), known as the Ruta de los Acantilados (Route of the Cliffs) or Camino de la Costa. It is a very long road with almost no populated areas (there are only a couple of small settlements), with many natural attractions and dozens of kilometers of wild beaches. It is perfect for those looking for quiet places and wanting to enjoy nature without too many people around.

For those who enjoy birdwatching, the El Cóndor seaside resort is home to one of the largest parrot colonies in the world, belonging to the burrowing parrot species (Cyanoliseus patagonus). These colonies can be seen especially along the cliffs by the beaches, particularly toward the southwest as you leave the town. In any case, throughout the region it is very common to see flocks of this species flying or perched on wires and trees.

To get to El Cóndor:
— By car: it is 33 km from Viedma via Provincial Route 1, which is paved along this stretch.
— By public transportation: buses leave from Viedma and take you to the town.
