Information
It is a city located on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi. It is one of the most important tourist centres in the country, and receives many visitors from other parts of Argentina and from abroad.
It has a tourist information office, ATMs, petrol stations and a large number of lodgings, restaurants and shops. A traditional feature of the city are the factories and shops of chocolates.
It has a variety of tourist attractions both in the city itself and in its surroundings:
- In the centre of the city, the civic centre and the waterfront are not to be missed. You can visit the Museo Paleontológico (Paleontological Museum), which has two rooms of different periods, and the Museo de la Patagonia (Museum of Patagonia), which has rooms that deal with the history of the region.
- In winter (mainly July and August) there are well-equipped ski centres, as in the neighbouring Villa Catedral.
- Towards summer (December to March) there are beaches on Lake Nahuel Huapi and other more or less nearby lakes such as Perito Moreno, Gutierrez, Guillelmo, Mascardi and Steffen. There are many trekking options of different degrees of difficulty, such as in the Llao Llao Municipal Park and in the Nahuel Huapi National Park.
- Boat trips can be made from Puerto Pañuelo, such as the classic ones to Victoria Island or to Puerto Blest.
- There are traditional ascents by cable car to Cerro Otto and by chairlift to Cerro Campanario.
