The time of the year to visit San Carlos de Bariloche depends exclusively on the activity you want to do. This is due to the fact that the weather is totally different in winter and summer, so what you can do varies.

In winter (June to September) the weather is cold, so the hills are covered with snow and the conditions are optimal for skiing and other snow activities. The neighbouring town of Villa Catedral is the gateway to Cerro Catedral, which has slopes and all the appropriate infrastructure.

In summer (December to March) the temperature is higher, so the weather is mild or just warm. This is the ideal season for touring the lakes and trekking. Both in the Llao Llao Municipal Park and in the Nahuel Huapi National Park there are many trails of different degrees of difficulty.

One thing to take into account is that the months of July/August in winter and January/February in summer are high season and it is advisable to book accommodation and other services you may need (car rental, snow equipment rental, etc.) in advance.
