Colonia Suiza

Information

It is a small village located near the shore of the eastern section of Lake Perito Moreno, about 24 km from downtown San Carlos de Bariloche in the province of Río Negro. It lies at the foot of Cerro Goye (a mountain) which reaches an altitude of 1675 meters, surrounded by Andean-Patagonian forest. Its name comes from its origins linked to Swiss immigrants, who founded the settlement in the late 19th century. Today it still retains part of that identity in its architecture, with traditional alpine-style wooden houses.

It has grocery stores, accommodations, campgrounds and a good selection of places to eat and breweries. It has access to a public beach on Lake Perito Moreno. There is also an area where a regional fair takes place, with stalls offering handicrafts and local products. The fair is fully active only on certain days of the week, when large numbers of visitors come to the village and the place takes on a special atmosphere.

To get to Colonia Suiza:
— By bus: you can get there on urban bus lines 10 and 13, which run from the bus terminal and downtown Bariloche.
— By car: from Provincial Route 77 known as "Circuito Chico", there are two exits that lead to Colonia Suiza. One is Provincial Route 79 which branches off near López Creek, and the other is Genoveva Beveraggi Street which begins near the bridge that separates the two sides of Lake Perito Moreno.
