Information
San Carlos de Bariloche is located on the southern shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi. One of its main attractions are its beaches on the lake, many of which are public and freely accessible. The water is clean, although it tends to be very cold even in the warmer summer months.
Among the most well known and easily accessible beaches in the city are the following:
- Playa Centenario (Centenario beach): it is by the mouth of the Ñireco River. It is very crowded during the high season.
- Playa del Centro: located about 150 metres away from the civic centre. It is also very crowded during peak tourist seasons.
- Playa Melipal (Melipal beach): unlike the others, it has stones instead of sand.
- Playa Bonita (Bonita beach): it is about 500 metres long.
- Playa Serena (Serena beach): it is located in a small bay.
It is worth mentioning that Lake Nahuel Huapí is extensive and has many more beaches outside the limits of Bariloche, both in the Río Negro and Neuquén parts of the lake.
