Information
Cerro Ventana, with an elevation of 1134 meters above sea level, is the third highest peak in the province of Buenos Aires. It is one of the summits of the Sierras de Ventania system, informally known as Sierras de la Ventana, the highest mountain range system in the province. Its name comes from the natural opening located at its summit. It is located within Ernesto Tornquist Provincial Park, a large protected area.
Its ascent is perhaps the main attraction of the entire Sierras de Ventania circuit, and at certain times of the year it is visited by a large number of people. It is a hike through the mountains, surrounded by a natural environment with stunning landscapes, and it culminates at the characteristic opening at the top of the mountain.
Things to keep in mind:
— To do the ascent, it is necessary to pay an entrance fee and it is mandatory to be accompanied by an authorized guide, who are available at the Cerro Ventana base sector within the park.
— This is a high-difficulty hike, so it is recommended for people with good physical condition.
— The complete route (round trip) takes approximately 6 hours, and there is a time limit for starting the ascent. It is advisable to begin early in the morning. It is essential to bring water (at least 2 liters per person), some food, a hat and sunscreen.
