Monte Calvario

Information

It is a tourist and religious attraction in the city of Tandil in the province of Buenos Aires. It is one of the classic visits for any tourist who comes to explore the city. It is a 22-meter-high cross located on top of a hill. To reach it, you can take the main staircase which requires some effort because there are many steps. But there is also the option of slowly making your way up along a Way of the Cross with all its stations, which also makes for a short walk through the hills.

It is visited throughout the year, but particularly during Holy Week when there is a large crowd. In this same area there is also a grotto and a chapel, the Santa Gemma Chapel.

It is close to the center of Tandil, only one and a half kilometers away. You can walk there or take bus line 505 (brown). If you go by car, you take España Avenue, which changes its name to Monseñor de Andrea Avenue after crossing Rivadavia Avenue. This avenue leads to a street parking area from which you can access the staircase that leads to the cross.
