Tandil

Information

It is a city located in a mountainous area that corresponds to the Sierras de Tandilia (a mountain chain).

It has a variety of shops, restaurants, petrol stations, ATMs and hotels. The tourist information office is located on General Rodriguez Street in front of Plaza Independencia (Independence Square). This town is famous for its tradition of producing quality cheeses and cold cuts, which are offered in many shops.

It is 172 km from Mar del Plata and 350 km from Buenos Aires. It has a bus terminal located at the intersection of Pinto Street and Buzón Avenue, equipped with parking for cars, and where buses arrive from destinations such as Bahía Blanca, Buenos Aires (Liniers and Retiro terminals), Córdoba, La Plata, Mar del Plata, Necochea, Paraná, Rafaela, Rosario, San Miguel de Tucumán, Santa Fe, Santa Rosa, Santiago del Estero and Villa María.

In the city and its surroundings there are several tourist attractions to visit:
- Camino de los Pioneros: it is a walk that allows you to know the history of the stonecutters that worked years ago in the quarries of the hills to extract granite.
- Cerro de la Virgen (a hill): it is located in a mountain range about 16 kilometres away from the city. It has a camping site and is visited by groups that come to practice canopy.
- Cristo de las Sierras: there is a path through a mountain range that leads to a Christ located at the top of a hill.
- El Centinela: it is a stone located at the end of an elevation, around which there is a complex with chairlifts, a trail and several services for tourists.
- Lago del Fuerte (Fort Lake): it is a reservoir with wide parks around it.
- Monte Calvario (Mount Calvary): it has a Way of the Cross and a stairway that leads to a huge 22-metre cross.
- Parque del Bicentenario (Bicentennial Park): a park with a monument, which also has a hill that can be climbed by a path to the top, where there is a cross.
- Parque del Origen: a park where there are replicas of dinosaurs.
- Parque Independencia (Independence Park): a green space that has a castle and a monument on its top, and it is a good panoramic point to see the city.
- La Movediza: an elevation where there is a replica of what used to be a huge stone that was in equilibrium and fell in 1912.

The city has aerobic trails in different sectors. It is also ideal for cycling tours.
