Parque Independencia

Information

It is a park located very close to the central area of Tandil, in the province of Buenos Aires in Argentina. Specifically, it is to the south of the city and close to Lago del Fuerte (Fort Lake). It includes a hill that is 286 meters above sea level and rises approximately 100 meters above the level of the city.

It can be accessed at the intersection of Avenida Arturo Illia and Echeverría Street, where its imposing granite entrance stands. In the lower part of the park there is an amphitheater where events are held from time to time.

Once inside the park, you can drive up an asphalt road to the top of the hill, where there is parking and the Mástil del Bicentenario (Bicentennial Flagpole) with an Argentine flag. This is an excellent panoramic viewpoint to see the vastness of the city from above. Up there is the Castillo Morisco (Moorish Castle), which you can climb to its terrace by a staircase located in one of its towers, through its arch. Once on the castle terrace, the hills continue behind the structure, and just a few steps away is the monument to General Martín Rodríguez, who was the founder of Fuerte Independencia which is now Tandil.

From the back of this hilltop, a stone path descends first to a viewpoint overlooking Lago del Fuerte and finally reaches its dam.
