Information

It is a walk through the mountain landscape of Tandil that allows visitors to learn about the history of the stonecutters who worked in quarries where granite was extracted. This material was used to make cobblestones that were taken to the city of Buenos Aires.

You can get there by car or bicycle, and it is also possible to walk there although obviously this requires more effort. To get there, at the end of Lago del Fuerte there is a roundabout where you take San Gabriel Avenue. You travel 1.5 km to Banco Provincia Club. From here, if you take the road to the left, it is 1.2 km to the site. If you continue straight, you first travel 600 meters, turn left and then travel another 1.5 km to the site.

You reach the foot of a hill where there is a place to park the vehicle, and from there you have to continue on foot. At this point, at the beginning of the walk there are panels explaining the history of the stonecutters and the work they carried out in the quarries.

As you climb, you reach Cerro El Mate at 300 meters above sea level, which belongs to the Tandilia mountain system. You can see a Monumento al Picapedrero (Monument to the Stonecutter) and there is a natural viewpoint from where you can see different hills and the landscape on the outskirts of the city.
