Information

It is a desert landscape with striking formations, located on the outskirts of San Pedro de Atacama. It is part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve.

To get there, from San Pedro de Atacama take the Licancabur Street or Route 23 in the direction of Calama. After 1 km there is an asphalted road on the left. Follow this road for 4 km and you will reach the Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon) information centre. To access the site you have to pay an entrance fee.

It is a place very visited by tourists. It has an internal path where you can see unique shapes and colours in the rocks, originated both by the accumulation of salt and the erosion by water and wind during many years. Among the most striking figures or formations we can mention El Anfiteatro (The Amphitheatre) , Las Tres Marías (The Three Marias) and La Gran Duna (The Great Dune). The tour can be done by car or bicycle, and takes between 2 or 3 hours to complete.

It is an area where there is no vegetation, and as far as fauna is concerned, only a few lizards have been recorded.
