Valle de la Muerte

Information

This is an area with reddish formations and huge dunes located 2 km from San Pedro de Atacama. It is in a totally deserted area, where you can see that there is almost no vegetation at all.

This site can be reached by car or bicycle. To get there, from San Pedro de Atacama take the Licancabur Street or Route 23 in the direction of Calama. After 2 km you will find a dirt road on the right. This is the road that leads to this tourist attraction.

There are no services of any kind at the site. There is a path to a viewpoint that has excellent panoramic views from the top. If you are going to walk around the place, bear in mind that the sun and the heat can be very strong, especially at midday. It is also advisable not to wander too far and to keep an eye out to avoid getting lost.
