Cerro Bahía Blanca

Information

It is a hill in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina. It has a height of 739 metres above sea level and belongs to the Ventania (often referred to as Ventana) system, an ancient mountain formation in the southwest of the province of Buenos Aires. It can be seen when travelling along Provincial Route 76 and is located within the boundaries of the Ernesto Tornquist Provincial Park.

It is accessed from the Cerro Bahía Blanca base sector of the protected area, located about 5.5 km from the town of Villa Ventana and about 9 km from Villa Serrana La Gruta. There is an information office and toilets, and during the high season there may be some services (check before you go) to buy food and drinks. At the time of my visit, in October 2018, an access ticket was charged.

Its ascent, of medium difficulty (for which a good physical condition is recommended), is one of the park's classics. It is self-guided, with an estimated duration of 2 to 3 hours (there and back), and access is only permitted until a certain time of the day. From its summit there is a spectacular panoramic view of the mountainous landscape in which it is located, where, on clear days, the outlines of other hills can be seen.

In addition to the ascent, visitors can also explore the Claro Oscuro trail, which is an easy, short and self-guided hike through grasslands and mountain forests.
