Puente del Inca Natural Monument

Information

This is a protected area in Mendoza, with an attractive naturally formed bridge, with yellow, orange and ochre colourations. It is located over the Las Cuevas River (later renamed Mendoza River), at an altitude of more than 2,700 metres above sea level.

Around it there are thermal springs of different temperature and saline composition. Years ago there was a thermal hotel, which was destroyed by an avalanche in 1965 and today its ruins can be seen.

The name Puente del Inca is due to the fact that it is located in an area where the Incas used to travel, and there are several legends about, for instance, a chief or a princess of the empire who was cured of an illness with the waters of this place.

Its access is through National Route 7, at about 70 km from Uspallata and 18 km from the border with Chile. To get there from both the Argentinean and Chilean sides, you have to travel through an Andean area of spectacular landscapes. When you get to the site, there are parking spaces and several stalls selling handicrafts, drinks and food.
