Uspallata

Information

It is a town located in the northern part of Mendoza Province. It is situated in a valley between the Precordillera and the Andes Mountains, with the Uspallata Stream running alongside it and eventually flowing into the Mendoza River.

It has services for tourists such as hotels, campgrounds, restaurants, supermarkets, an ATM and a petrol station. It is a good option for staying and using as a base to visit the many tourist sites found in the surrounding area or along the way to the mountains:
— About 2 km to the north are the Bóvedas de Uspallata, an old colonial mining complex that was later used during the preparations for San Martín's crossing of the Andes.
— About 9 km to the east is Cerro Siete Colores (hills), with its geological formations in different shapes and colors.
— Taking National Route 7 towards the mountains, there are attractions such as the historic Picheuta Bridge. Further along are the entrances to Aconcagua Provincial Park, home to the highest peak in the Americas: Aconcagua. You can also visit the natural formation known as Puente del Inca and continue as far as the Christ the Redeemer of the Andes monument on the border with Chile. The Los Penitentes ski resort is also located along this route.

How to get there:
— By bus: there is public transportation from the city of Mendoza, passing through Potrerillos. There are also buses that travel to and from Las Cuevas, stopping at Penitentes and Puente del Inca.
— By car (option 1): Uspallata is located along National Route 7, which connects it with the cities of Mendoza (120 km), San Luis (372 km) and Buenos Aires (1150 km).
— By car (option 2): you can also get there from the city of Mendoza by traveling 104 km along Provincial Route 52. This route is much slower and has some unpaved sections, but it is a scenic drive as it passes through the Villavicencio Nature Reserve.
