Christ the Redeemer of the Andes

It is a monument located on the border between Argentina and Chile, in the heart of the Andes Mountains at 3854 meters above sea level. It is made of bronze and stands about 7 meters tall. It was inaugurated in 1904 to commemorate the peaceful resolution of the border dispute between the two countries at the end of the 19th century.

To get there, from Route 7 in the Argentine village of Las Cuevas, there is a dirt road that climbs about 8.5 km up the mountain until reaching the statue. Keep in mind that during the winter, especially between May and September, the road can become inaccessible due to snow or ice. It is a good idea to check the weather and road conditions beforehand.

The entire journey to Christ the Redeemer is an experience in itself, as it offers spectacular views of the mountainous landscape surrounding the area. You arrive at a flat area where vehicles can be parked, and sometimes you may also find a small stand selling food and hot drinks. The monument is located there. It is recommended to be careful with the strong winds and to bring warm clothing, as the cold can be intense at any time of the year.
