Information

The Cerro Tres Picos is the highest peak in the province of Buenos Aires, at 1239 metres above sea level. The ascent is an excellent trekking option, but keep in mind that you need to be in good physical condition.

When I did it, you had to go to Estancia Funke, where you had to register, pay an entrance fee and they gave you the necessary instructions. To get to this estancia you can take a dirt road that leaves Route 76 at 3.5 km from Villa Serrana La Gruta (in the direction of the town of Tornquist).

There were 2 options:
- One-day ascent: in this case it was compulsory to be at the estancia between 7.30 a.m. and 8.30 a.m. In addition to paying the entrance fee, you had to leave a small deposit, which was returned to you if you returned on time and registered your departure at the Estancia Funke. It was compulsory to bring 2 litres of water per person, a snack to eat during the day and it was also advisable to bring a hat and sunscreen.
- Ascent in 2 days: you had to spend the night in a camp located in a sector of the ascent path. In this case, in addition to water and food, additional equipment was required, such as a tent, a mattress, a coat and, I think, a heater.

I advise, before going, to check one or two days in advance if there were any changes in the schedule or requirements.
