Birdwatching in Manuel Antonio National Park

Manuel Antonio National Park has several trails to walk through the forest and access different beaches, so you can see both terrestrial and marine birds. A fact to take into account is the large number of tourists that visit this protected area, so it is advisable to look for less crowded and quieter sections of the trails to be able to observe the birds more and better.

The number of species recorded is large, so I will only mention a few of the more eye-catching and easy to observe species:
- Along the beaches, it is advisable to pay attention to places with rocks and less crowded by people, as it is normal to observe coastal species such as the least sandpiper (Calidris minutilla).
- In the vicinity of the coast, it is common to see the grey-cowled wood-rail (Aramides cajaneus).
- Woodpeckers, birds of prey and toucans are frequently observed.
- There are also some that appear among the vegetation, such as the abundant chestnut-backed antbird (Poliocrania exsul).
