Lake Guillelmo

Information

It is a large lake with crystal-clear waters that belongs to Nahuel Huapi National Park, in Argentina's Río Negro Province. It has an elongated shape and receives water from small mountain streams. Its outflow is the Guillelmo Stream, which flows for a short distance of approximately 1–2 km before emptying into Mascardi Lake. It is surrounded by a typical Andean-Patagonian forest environment and mountains.

It can be reached via paved National Route 40, which runs 33 km from San Carlos de Bariloche to the northern end of the lake and 77 km from El Bolsón to the southern end.

It is an ideal lake to visit for those looking for a quiet place with few people, as it is not one of the main spots where tourists arrive in large numbers. Even during the high season, visitor numbers are moderate or low. There are a couple of free access points along Route 40 on the western side of the lake that allow access to the shore. On the other hand, near the beginning of Mascardi Lake, a roughly 3 km road branches off from Route 40 and leads to a campground on the eastern shore of Guillelmo Lake, where there are tables with benches and a long beach.
