Source of the Diamante River

When you visit the Laguna del Diamante Nature Reserve, you can get to know the place where the Diamante River has its source in the laguna (like a lake) and the environment of the first stretch of its water course.

If you go along the main route of the protected area, almost arriving at the laguna del Diamante and a little before the bridge that is by the gendarmerie post, a gravel road opens up on the left. This road runs parallel to the Diamante River, so you can get to know its surroundings for about two kilometres until you reach a car park, where you can leave your vehicle and continue walking.

At all times you can appreciate the river with the view of the Maipo volcano in the background. This area is an excellent place to see birds, especially aquatic birds such as the Andean gull (Larus serranus) and the upland goose (Chloephaga picta).

Something to take into account is that you should be careful where you walk, as it is a place where birds nest.
