Riverside of Colón

Information

The locality of Colón has a long shore on the Uruguay River, with several sectors to visit. There are beaches, streams, viewpoints, camping sites and the port, which gives the visitor the possibility to carry out different activities.

Travelling from north to south we can see:
- The northern end of the shore starts at the mouth of the Artalaz Stream in the middle of a wild area. There is a protected area called the Río de los Pájaros Multiple Use Reserve, which has a body of water and a path around it.
- Then come the northern beaches which include the so-called Punta Colón and Norte Beach, which are wide and in total extend for almost 2 km to the harbour.
- Further along comes the bank of the downtown area of the city. Here you will find the harbour, a tourist information office and a pedestrian path with viewpoints overlooking the river.
- Then come the southern beaches, which are characterised by a lot of sand. There is Inkier beach, Honda beach and Nueva beach.
- At the southern end is the Arroyo de la Leche (a stream) and a pink, wooden-floored bridge to cross it. On the other side is the Sur Reserve, a natural area bordering the Uruguay River.

Both the northern and southern beach areas have parking spaces, camping options, public toilets, restaurants and several grocery and beverage shops. Boats leave from the port area in high season to visit islands and sandbanks on the river.
