Information

It is a city located on the western bank of the Uruguay River. It is touristy and receives many visitors, arriving in large numbers in summer (especially in January and February) and long weekends. It has a tourist information office, shops, restaurants, ATMs, petrol station and accommodation in different price ranges.

Its central area is located around 12 de Abril Street. There you can visit the Museo Histórico Regional (Regional Historical Museum), where material about the foundation and history of Colón is exhibited.

A great attraction are its beaches. From the shore near the city centre there are beaches both to the north and to the south. They are different in appearance, the southern ones have more sand and the northern ones are longer, so I recommend visiting both sectors. There is parking, restaurants and many shops in front of the beaches to buy groceries and drinks.

From the vicinities of its port, located in Gobernador Quirós Avenue and Gouchón Street, boats leave in summer to go on excursions to visit the islands and sandbanks on the river.

Outside the city, there are many other attractions. One of them is to visit the other localities on the banks of the Uruguay River, such as Concepción del Uruguay and San José. An unmissable place to visit is the El Palmar National Park, located only 50 km away, where you can be in contact with nature. I also recommend travelling 62 km and visiting the San José Palace, a historical site where the former governor and president Justo José de Urquiza lived.
