Information

It is a stretch of National Route 40 that goes from San Martín de los Andes to Villa La Angostura, and passes by the side of several lakes. What makes this drive famous are the spectacular landscapes and the number of attractions that can be seen from the road itself. The route passes through part of the Lanin National Park and the Nahuel Huapi National Park. From Route 40 itself there are viewpoints and trails to get to know the lakes better, with access to trails and camping sites.

Although it can be done at any time of the year because the route is asphalted, in the winter (June to September, and nearby months) it can be risky due to snow or ice accumulation (take snow chains).

To be exact, there may be seven lakes or more, depending on whether you count only the large lakes on the side of the road, or if you count the smaller lakes or others that are a little further away. On the other hand, some people do or do not consider Bariloche, Villa La Angostura and the Lake Lácar and Lake Nahuel Huapi as part of this tour.

A list of the big lakes to be seen is:

- Lácar
- Machónico
- Villarino
- Falkner
- Correntoso
- Espejo Grande
- Nahuel Huapi

And of smaller size are observed:

- Escondido
- Bailey Willys
