Information

It is a lake in the province of Neuquén, which is also called Espejo Grande. The Spanish name 'espejo' means 'mirror' and was given due to the reflection of the landscape on its surface, which is usually observed from different points in its vicinity. It is surrounded by forest and its water is usually crystal clear.

It receives water from glaciers through streams such as the Cuerno, Ayhuin and Gliunco Hue, and its main effluent is the Espejo River, which in turn flows into the Lake Espejo Chico.

It is one of the lakes that form part of the tourist circuit called Road of the Seven Lakes (which is a section of the National Route 40), so it is easy to access. Along this route there is a wide public beach at its southeastern end, where you can park vehicles and approach its shore on foot, and where wild birds typical of the region abound, such as the black-faced ibis (Theristicus melanopis) and the ruddy-headed goose (Chloephaga rubidiceps).
