Catua

Information

It is a small village in the Puna region, located at an altitude of over 3900 meters above sea level, in the middle of a vast desert landscape and very far from any other settlement. It belongs to the province of Jujuy in Argentina, in its far western part and right on the border with the province of Salta. Basic services can be found there such as accommodation, a local eatery and places to buy groceries and drinks.

Among its attractions are the Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen and a path of about 400 meters that leads to a viewpoint, from where you can see the village and the mountain landscape that surrounds it.

To get to Catua, its access is located along the road leading to the Sico International Pass, between Argentina and Chile. From there, it is only 1.5 km along a secondary road to reach the village. For this reason, it is usually a good option for a stop for those traveling along this route from one country to the other, as these are long stretches of road with few alternatives for stopping and finding any kind of service.
