Information

The Casa Histórica de la Independencia or Casa de Tucumán (Historic Independence House) is a museum and historical site located in the centre of the city of San Miguel de Tucumán.

It was in one of its halls that Argentina's independence was declared on July 9th, 1816. The mansion was built in the 18th century, and during the years 1816 and 1817 it was used for the sessions of a group of representatives of the provinces known as the Congreso de Tucumán (Congress of Tucumán), who took the oath of independence.

Nowadays the house functions as a museum where material that gives a picture of the events of that time is exhibited. What you see today is a restoration, and the only original construction is the room where the oath was taken. The tour of the museum takes about 30 minutes.
