Wildlife Watching in Aconquija National Park

The Aconquija National Park is a protected area of great biodiversity, as it includes high altitude and Yungas environments. In addition, it has trails that allow access to different sectors and thus have the possibility of getting to know the wildlife present.

Amongst the birds, some typical species of the Yungas are often seen, such as the yellow-striped brushfinch (Atlapetes citrinellus), the common chlorospingus (Chlorospingus flavopectus), the Azara's spinetail (Synallaxis azarae), the white-throated tyrannulet (Mecocerculus leucophrys) and the mountain wren (Troglodytes solstitialis). On tree trunks and branches you can see the golden-olive woodpecker (Colaptes rubiginosus) and the buff-browed foliage-gleaner (Syndactyla rufosuperciliata), and higher up the scaly-headed parrot (Pionus maximiliani) and the mitred parakeet (Psittacara mitratus). With a bit of luck, you may be lucky enough to see the Tucumán amazon (Amazona tucumana).

Among the mammals, the brown gray brocket (Mazama gouazoubira) and the crab-eating fox (Cerdocyon thous) are common. In the high altitude environment you can see guanacoes (Lama guanicoe), and the endangered deer taruca (Hippocamelus antisensis).
