Wildlife Watching in the Iberá Wetlands

The Iberá Wetlands is an excellent destination for wildlife watching. On the one hand, it has several portals that allow access for this activity, and some of them even have trails and the possibility of boat excursions. On the other hand, it is a site of great biodiversity with species that are very easy to find and frequently sighted.

This natural area preserves several endangered species, which are preserved in this site thanks to the fact that it is a protected area of great extension and with zones that are not very accessible.

Among the mammals, the capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris), marsh deer (Blastocerus dichotomus), gray brocket (Mazama gouazoubira), Brazilian Guinea pig (Cavia aperea), crab-eating fox (Cerdocyon thous), pampas fox (Lycalopex gymnocercus) and the only primate in this area, the black and gold howler monkey (Alouatta caraya), are frequently seen. The Neotropical otter (Lontra longicaudis), the plains viscacha (Lagostomus maximus), and the more difficult to see maned wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus) are also commonly seen.

Among the reptiles, the yacaré (Caiman yacare) and the broad-snouted caiman (Caiman latirostris, in smaller numbers) can be seen all over the bodies of water. At night, a variety of amphibians can be heard and encountered.
