Quines

Information

It is a locality in the north of the province of San Luis. It is located in an area where the mountains have ended and the plain begins. The river that bears its name (Quines) passes by, and depending on the time of the year, it can reach the town with or without water.

It has services such as a tourist information office, petrol station, ATM, eating places, lodgings and supermarkets. To get there, there is a bus terminal where public transport go from Candelaria, La Rioja and San Luis City.

The most central area is located by the main square Lafinur. On the outskirts of the town there are two recreational areas that can be easily accessed and have the infrastructure to receive visitors:
- Balneario El Muro: it has a small dam over the Quines River that in its upper part forms a wide pool. It has a recreation and camping area with tables, benches and barbecues, and there is also a grocery store and toilets. To get there, leaving the town and on National Route 20 there is a gravel road, and from there it is about 2.3 kilometres to the entrance of the site.
- Balneario El Zapallar: it has a swimming pool fed by the water of the El Zapallar Stream, and it has cement tables and benches. To get there, from the crossroads of Routes 20 and 79 there is an asphalted road, and it is 5.3 kilometres to a car park where the vehicles are left and then you have to cross a metallic bridge to the place on foot.

On the other hand, a recommendable trip is to first drive about 11 km northeast along the National Route 20, and from there take the Provincial Route 2. Along the way you will pass by the Quebrada de San Vicente (a ravine), where you can see the landscapes and at times a stream that meanders in the middle of the mountains. After 26 kilometres you reach the village of San Martín, which has a recreational area with a stream, and from there you can take another route to the La Huertita Dam.
