It is a tourist railway that links localities in the Patagonian provinces of Chubut and Río Negro.
The routes offered vary as new stretches are being enabled, and the usual stations from where it is taken are Esquel (at present it goes to Nahuel Pan) and El Maitén (to the Río Negro locality of Ñorquinco). It is worth mentioning that there is also a service between Ingeniero Jacobacci and Ojo de Agua, operated by another company. It operates only some days of the week and every month of the year (in winter as well), and usually more frequencies are added in seasons with tourism peaks.
This train was inaugurated at the beginning of the 20th century, and nowadays it keeps the characteristics of that time, such as the narrow gauge (which gives it the name of 'Trochita') and the fact that it runs on a steam engine with diesel as fuel. It runs at low speed, and the formations have original components thanks to the fact that in El Maitén there are workshops with matrices that allow the different parts to be maintained and replaced. It usually has a bar or dining car (what is consumed there is not included in the price of the ticket).
During the ride, a guide will tell you about the history of the railway and the main attractions along the way. And about the origins of the towns where the stations are located.
