It is the capital and most populated city of the province of Formosa, located in the north of Argentina. It is on the Paraguay River, which separates it and is the international border with Paraguay.
As it is a big city, it offers services for those who visit it, such as tourist information offices, petrol stations, ATMs, restaurants, various shops and lodgings of different prices.
Inside and outside the urban area you can visit:
- Its regional historical museum Juan Pablo Duffard, which has different rooms where objects are exhibited and information about the history of the province is given.
- If you take the Costanera Avenue and continue in a northeastern direction, you will come out to a waterfront that has the Paraguay River on one side and a area with bodies of water on the other side. You pass by different green areas and viewpoints, with small sculptures that are replicas of two typical birds of the area, the Chilean flamingo and the jabiru. You arrive at a roundabout with a large nativity scene, two Argentinean flags and a dancing water fountain.
- To the south, leaving the urban area, is the Laguna Oca (like a lake). It is a natural area with wide green spaces and a long beach on the water with tents/parasols, benches and children's games. It is a good place to observe the fauna of the region.
To get to the city:
- By bus: it has a bus terminal where public transport arrive daily from different cities of the country such as Buenos Aires, Corrientes, Resistencia, Roque Sáenz Peña, Rosario and Santa Fe, and some days a week from other cities such as Córdoba and Salta. They also come from other towns in the province such as Clorinda, El Colorado, Ingeniero Juárez, Laguna Yema, Las Lomitas and Pirané.
- By car: National Route 11 is the main road that connects it to the north with Clorinda (where the border crossing to Asunción is located) and to the south with Resistencia and the province of Santa Fe. On the other hand, the national route 81 that goes in northwest direction connects it to localities such as Las Lomitas and Pirané.
- By plane: leaving the city heading south is the international airport El Pucú (known as Formosa's international airport) where flights arrive from the city of Buenos Aires (confirm how many days a week).
