Information
This park and nature reserve in the province of Córdoba, Argentina, is a good place for bird watching in the dry Chaco and mountain environment. The protected area allows visits, has trails to walk around it and has a camping area to spend the night. A characteristic of Chancaní is that there are a good number of species that can be easily observed, even in the main recreational area of the park.
Along the access roads to the park it is common to find species of partridges, especially the brushland tinamou (Nothoprocta cinerascens). At the entrance it is common to find birds of prey such as the spot-winged falconet (Spiziapteryx circumcincta), and of the parrot family, the blue-crowned parakeet (Psittacara acuticaudatus). Other common species to be seen in the camping area are the red tanager (Piranga flava), the crested hornero (Furnarius cristatus) and the ultramarine grosbeak (Cyanoloxia brissonii), which are typical of the region.
Of special interest are the crested gallito (Rhinocrypta lanceolata), cinnamon warbling-finch (Poospiza ornata), black-breasted warbling-finch (Microspingus pectoralis) and black-crested finch (Lophospingus pusillus).
At night, a species that is often found is the chaco owl (Strix chacoensis).
