Information

It is a Maya archaeological site located in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. It sits within the Sian Ka'an reserve, a protected area that can be accessed directly from these ruins. Getting there is easy as it is located along Route 307, approximately 23 km from the city of Tulum. The number of visitors it receives is moderate, much lower than in other more well-known sites like Chichén Itzá or the Tulum ruins themselves, which ensures a peaceful visit for comfortably taking in the original structures.

In ancient times, it was a strategic point for the Maya. Surrounded by swampland and lagoons, they managed to build canals that allowed them to connect with the sea and thus establish an important trade route.

The ruins area features a main path that winds through a natural setting surrounded by vegetation, providing access to the different structures. Exploring the entire site takes about 40 minutes. The main attraction is its pyramid known as El Castillo (The Castle), which reaches a height of 12 meters.

At the end of the main path, you arrive at a checkpoint for the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. If you purchase a second ticket (this time to enter the reserve) you can continue along a trail that leads to the Muyil lagoon, where there is a pier. There you can ask whether boat tours are being offered and what the price is.
