Kinichná

Information

It is a Mayan archaeological site neighbouring that of Dzibanché. Both are located towards the south of the state of Quintana Roo.

To get there, a paved road leaves from Route 186, some 58 kilometres from Chetumal. You drive 14.5 km along this road, pass through the village of Morocoy, and then drive another 3 km to a fork in the road. There you turn right and take another road. It is another 5.5 km to the ticket office, where you pay the entrance fees for Dzibanché and Kinichná. From this ticket office there are 2 different roads for each ruin: one of 1.5 km that goes to Dzibanché and another of 2.5 km that leads to Kinichná. Importantly, when I did it, the last section of these trails had holes in them.

Kinichná is normally quiet and visited by few tourists. It has a large main structure called the Acropolis.
