Information
It is a Mayan archaeological site next to Kinichná.
To get there, there is a paved road from Route 186, some 58 km from Chetumal. You drive 14.5 km along this road, pass through the village of Morocoy, and then drive another 3 km to a fork in the road. There you turn right and take another road. It is another 5.5 km to the ticket office, where you pay the entrance fees for Dzibanché and Kinichná. From this ticket office there are 2 different roads for each ruin: one of 1.5 km that goes to Dzibanché and another of 2.5 km that leads to Kinichná. Importantly, when I did it, the last section of these trails had holes in them.
As it is far from the big tourist centres (Cancún, Tulum, etc.), this area is little visited, especially if compared to others. In any case, observing the structures and archaeological value of this area, it is recommendable to visit it.
It was once a Mayan city, which had a great development between 250 AD and 800 AD, when great constructions were built. The largest structure is the Temple of the Owl, and there are several important ones such as the Temple of the Captives and the Temple of the Cormorants.
Another attraction of this place is that Central American spider monkey (Ateles geoffroyi, an endangered species) are often seen moving through the trees.
