The accesses to the localities of the Uruguay River shore are located on National Route 14. This road to the south joins National Route 12, which leads to the city of Buenos Aires. The same route 14 communicates to the north with localities in the provinces of Corrientes and Misiones.
The cities of Colón, Concepción, Concordia, Gualeguaychú and San José each have their own bus terminals, with bus lines connecting between them. All of them are served by direct transport from Buenos Aires, La Plata, Paraná and Rosario.
There are 3 international bridges to and from Uruguay:
- bridge linking Gualeguaychú to Fray Bentos,
- bridge from Colón to Paysandú,
- bridge from Concordia to Salto.
It is worth mentioning that the Gualeguaychú-Fray Bentos bridge and border crossing is the one usually used by those travelling by car from Greater Buenos Aires to Uruguay, since it is the closest one. For this reason, it is very busy during the high summer season (mainly in January and February), which can lead to long lines and delays when crossing.
