1. By bus: there are many localities of the Riviera Maya with bus terminals, such as Bacalar, Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, etc. Buses arrive there from many parts of the country, either by direct or connecting trips. They come from relatively close places like Mérida to distant places like Mexico City.

2. By plane: Cancún's international airport, located about 18 km from Cancún and 53 km from Playa del Carmen, is where a large number of national and foreign tourists arrive. It is one of the main airports in the country, with high passenger traffic. It receives flights from different Mexican states and from many foreign destinations. Upon arrival, there are different options to move from the airport to different locations in the Riviera Maya:
- Renting a car: it is an excellent option, as there are several rental agencies inside and/or just in front of the airport. They offer to rent cars and vans in a wide range of prices. Note that the most common vehicles available are those with automatic transmission.
- Bus: On one side of the airport there is a booth that sells bus tickets to downtown Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Tulum and other destinations. If it is difficult to find this booth, you can ask at the airport information office.
