Sacred Valley of the Incas

It is an Andean area that belongs to the department of Cusco and extends along the Vilcanota River (which is also called Urubamba) from Pisac to Ollantaytambo. It includes the valleys formed both by this river and by other nearby watercourses.

This area was settled by the Incas and was later occupied by the Spaniards. Today there are several villages and archaeological sites with a great cultural richness, which have structures and samples of both Inca and colonial times.

It is visited by a great number of tourists thanks to the ease of access and the number of attractions that can be seen. In order to visit it and get to know it, in its different localities there are services such as public transportation, places to eat, lodging and handicraft markets. The following places can be seen and to enter you need to have the Boleto Turístico de Cusco (BTC, Cusco Tourist Ticket, which can be paid on the spot): Moray, Ollantaytambo, Pisac, Chinchero and Sacsayhuamán.

Regarding when to visit the valley, as is the case in the whole region, the best time to visit is in the middle of the year because it rains less (it can still rain, but on average it rains less in those months). However, you have to consider that it is also the high season and it is full of tourists.
