Trails and Wildlife on Contoy Island

Information

The Contoy Island is a place that belongs to a national park and remains in its natural state. It has no inhabitants or buildings, there is only a park ranger station with an interpretation centre and basic infrastructure to receive tourists.

There are two trails that allow visitors to explore the area:
- Path to the Pajarera Central lagoon: it is a path of about 180 metres. It takes about 10 minutes to reach a lagoon with many birds, where it is almost certain to see a large group of magnificent frigatebird (Fregata magnificens).
- Sikimay trail to the dunes: it is 287 metres long. It takes about 20 minutes to reach a viewpoint with excellent views of both coasts of the island.

You can observe many birds such as different species of herons, swallows and marine birds such as sandpipers and terns. And with a bit of luck you can spot other birds such as the osprey (Pandion haliaetus).
