La Lobería

It is a beach with a small settlement located along a stretch of the Ruta de los Acantilados (Route of the Cliffs) or Camino de la Costa (Coastal Route) in the Argentine province of Río Negro. It is located within a protected area called the Punta Bermeja Provincial Faunal Reserve.

It is about 29 km from El Cóndor, reached by an asphalt section of Provincial Route 1. There is a bus that runs from El Cóndor, although it operates at certain scheduled times that may change over time.

La Lobería is a wide beach when the tide is low with areas of sand, rocky shore or both, bordered by high cliffs. As the tide goes out, natural pools form among the rocky surface of the shore. The time I went, there was a fee to access the beach via a ramp that allows you to go down from the top of the cliffs to the beach. There was also a basic store in the surrounding area.

One particular feature of the place is that South American sea lions (Otaria flavescens) are often seen there, which is what gives the place its name. When there are a lot of people, the animals may move toward more remote and secluded areas of the coast, so it is possible that none will be seen in the main section of the beach.
