Information
It is the most important locality of the circuit of the Sierras de Ventania (or Sierras de Ventana, a mountain chain), both for the number of inhabitants and for the varied hotel and gastronomic offer. It has a variety of services such as a tourist information office, grocery shops, petrol station and cash dispenser.
It has several places to visit. Some of them are a few kilometres away and you need some kind of transport to get there, such as the Tornquist Provincial Park or Saldungaray.
But there are also several tourist attractions to visit that are in the same locality, and can be reached on foot or by bicycle. To mention a few:
- Sierra de la Ventana Railway Station: it is in the central area of the town. When I was there, the railway was working (I saw a freight train passing by).
- Cerro del Amor or Cerro Ceferino (a hill): it is located on the other side of the Sauce Grande River that passes through the east of the town. It is easy to access and with a good physical condition it can be climbed without difficulty.
- Balneario del Dique: it is the most important recreational area. It is on the Sauce Grande River, and has picnic and sitting sites.
- Balneario Los Angelitos: another recreational area. There is a place to rent tables and fire pits, and it has a grocery store. It is also on the Sauce Grande River.
- Balneario Dique San Bernardo: it is a grassy space for picnics on the banks of the San Bernardo Stream that runs through the west of the locality.
To get to Sierra de la Ventana, there are bus lines from the cities of Bahía Blanca, Buenos Aires and La Plata.
