Bridges Islands

Information

It is an archipelago located in the Beagle Channel, about 3 km off the coast of the Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego.

Some of these islands were formerly inhabited by the Yamanas, indigenous people who used to move around in canoes made of wood from trees, fishing and hunting, especially sea lions. These inhabitants began to disappear from the area after the arrival of the Spaniards. Currently, the archipelago has no permanent population.

The largest of the islands is called Bridges. It has a well demarcated path about 150 metres long that allows you to walk around it and access a higher area that is an excellent panoramic point to take pictures.

Boats leave from Ushuaia to visit them, where there are stalls selling these tours on Prefectura Naval Street between Julio A. Roca and Comodoro A. Laserre Streets. There are excursions that, besides visiting the Bridges Islands, include the observation of some islets known as Isla de los Pájaros, Isla de los Lobos and the one with the Les Éclaireurs lighthouse.
