Information
It is a bay located on the outskirts of the city of Ushuaia, at the southernmost tip of the province of Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and South Atlantic Islands. It lies on the northern edge of the Beagle Channel.
It is about 3 km from the city center. To get there you take Maipú Avenue heading southwest, which becomes Malvinas Argentinas Avenue. You reach a roundabout where you take Hipólito Yrigoyen Street. Then you reach another roundabout where you take Roque Sánchez Galdeano Street, which leads along the bay. If you prefer to go along the coast you can take Prefectura Naval Argentina Avenue heading southwest, which after the Bahía Encerrada reserve also reaches the roundabout to take Roque Sánchez Galdeano Street that leads to the bay.
It is freely accessible. It has a long coastal path to walk or bike along, with access to some beach areas. It's an attractive outing, as on one side you have a view of the Beagle Channel and on the other side a steppe with snow-capped mountains in the background, ideal for some good photo shots.
For those who enjoy birdwatching, it's an ideal place to see species typical of this southern region. For example, the kelp goose (Chloephaga hybrida), the dolphin gull (Larus scoresbii), the magellanic oystercatcher (Haematopus leucopodus) and the dark-bellied cinclodes (Cinclodes patagonicus) are abundant.
