Information
It's a small lake located in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo. It sits right in the heart of the town of Cobá, directly across from the well-known Cobá archaeological site.
It's a great spot for those interested in observing the region's native wildlife, as it hosts a wide variety of aquatic species, many of which can be spotted easily. The body of water is bordered by a wooden walkway that allows visitors to explore it up close and comfortably. And since it's located within the town itself and is easily accessible on foot, it's a convenient destination for both hotel guests and visitors to the archaeological site.
You can see common native bird species such as the anhinga (Anhinga anhinga), the purple gallinule (Porphyrio martinicus), the pied-billed grebe (Podilymbus podiceps) and other less frequently observed ones like the ruddy crake (Laterallus ruber). It's also common to find amphibians in the area and even small reptiles like lizards.
It's an ideal place to take a break, enjoy the peaceful surroundings and snap photos of the water's surface, especially at sunset when the light fades and the reflections become more striking. It's a perfect stop after exploring the archaeological zone or visiting one of the nearby cenotes.
