It is an urban protected area of 350 hectares located in the heart of the city of Buenos Aires, on the shore of the Río de la Plata.
It has two entrances. One is located in what would be the continuation of Viamonte Street (north entrance), and the other one in the continuation of Brasil Avenue (south entrance). If you are coming from the centre of the city, the Viamonte entrance is close by, and you can get there with a short taxi ride or the bus lines 99, 109, 126, 146 and 159 leave close by.
Admission is free. At weekends it is very popular with cyclists, birdwatchers, joggers and walkers. There are seating, picnic areas and toilets. Outside the reserve boundaries there are plenty of stalls selling food and refreshments. Although the site is guarded, my recommendation is not to show too many cameras or valuables, especially on the streets outside the reserve.
It is a wetland of great biodiversity, with different environments such as lagunas (like lakes), forests and reed beds. It is an excellent place to get to know the fauna of the region. Many species of birds, mammals, and reptiles such as turtles and iguanas can be seen.
