Information
It is one of the best ski centres in Argentina, with an international prestige.
The snow sports season is winter (mainly from June to August). This destination has all the necessary infrastructure to receive those who want to do skiing, snowboarding and other activities. It has hotels, restaurants, tourist information office, supermarket and petrol station. There are several slopes of different levels of difficulty, as well as adequate lifts and the possibility of renting equipment.
On the other hand, in summer (December to March) there is usually no snow and Route 222 leading to Las Leñas is an interesting ride, as it has several attractive spots. Interesting places on this route are the Pozo de las Ánimas (like a sinkhole), the Laguna de la Niña Encantada (like a lake), and passing through the town (you must follow a road suitable only for high vehicles that can climb steep slopes) you will find the impressive Valle Hermoso.
To get to Las Leñas by car:
- First of all, bear in mind that if the road is icy, you should use tyre chains.
- To get there from Malargüe, first drive 30 km north on Route 40. There you turn left onto road 222, along which you drive 48 km to Las Leñas.
- If you are coming from San Rafael, it is 73 km along Route 144, and then 82 km along Route 40 to take Road 222.
