Birdwatching in Laguna Nimez

In the Laguna Nimez Reserve there are species that are extremely common: black-faced ibis (Theristicus melanopis), South American snipe (Gallinago paraguaiae), correndera pipit (Anthus correndera), patagonian mockingbird (Mimus patagonicus), upland goose (Chloephaga picta), rufous-collared sparrow (Zonotrichia capensis), grey-hooded sierra-finch (Phrygilus gayi), plumbeous rail (Pardirallus sanguinolentus), long-tailed meadowlark (Leistes loyca), spectacled tyrant (Hymenops perspicillatus), grass wren (Cistothorus platensis) and austral negrito (Lessonia rufa).

Among the aquatic species, the yellow-billed teal (Anas flavirostris), crested duck (Lophonetta specularioides), red shoveler (Spatula platalea), coscoroba swan (Coscoroba coscoroba) and Chilean flamingo (Phoenicopterus chilensis) are abundant. It is frequent to see the Andean duck (Oxyura ferruginea), but note that there is also the lake duck (Oxyura vittata) (both are similar, so do not confuse them).

Among the birds of prey, there are always the chimango caracara (Phalcoboenus chimango) and the cinereous harrier (Circus cinereus).

Sometimes you can see the least seedsnipe (Thinocorus rumicivorus) and the patagonian yellow-finch (Sicalis lebruni) on the shores of Lake Argentino (there are steps to go from the reserve to the lake). And also the magellanic plover (Pluvianellus socialis) is often sighted by the lake.
