Luján

Information

It is a small village located in the north of the Argentine province of San Luis. It lies about 18 km from Quines and approximately 35 km from San Francisco del Monte de Oro. It sits at the foot of the northwestern part of the Sierras de San Luis (a mountain range), right where the mountains end and the flatlands begin.

It offers some basic services for visitors such as small shops and several lodging options. This village is known for having various places to explore, so a good idea is to spend at least one night in one of the accommodations to be able to see everything calmly and without rushing.

The main attractions are found along a paved road that leads toward the dam:
— Quebrada de las Higueritas Reserve: its entrance is about 3.5 km from the village. It's an excellent option for those who enjoy trekking in natural environments, as it's a protected area with park rangers present. It's common to spot different species of native wildlife typical of the region.
— Way of the Cross: located about 100 meters further along from the reserve entrance. It features a path made of stone and cement steps that climbs a hill, as it's on the slope of Cerro de la Bandera. Along the way you pass by a statue of Christ, and at the top there's a wide panoramic view of the area.
— Luján Dam and Reservoir: at kilometer 5 you reach the dam wall, which was built over the Luján River which is the same river that runs alongside the village.

To get to Luján:
— By bus: there is public transportation available from the cities of La Rioja, Quines and San Luis.
— By car: from the city of San Luis, you first travel 122 km along National Route 146 and then 2 km on National Route 20. To get there from the city of San Juan, the trip is about 295 km via Route 20.
